A great start from Zack Davies wasn't enough to see off powerful Pole Dawid Michelus in the bantamweight bronze medal bout today.

Despite leading 5:4 at the end of the first round, the Welshman struggled to maintain his lead and Michelus came back in the second and third, taking the bronze medal with a final score of 12:7.

Eighteen-year-old Zack, who is from Llanelli and boxes for Cwmgors ABC, was the only British boxer to qualify for the Youth Olympics, which are taking place at the International Convention Centre in Singapore. Although Zack was unable to secure a medal, the competition was invaluable in terms of international experience.

Zack lost to Shiva Thapa of India in his bantamweight semi-final bout in Youth Olympic Games on Sunday by a score of 14-4.

"Zack did well against an incredibly tough opponent," said Wales' national coach Tony Williams. "Despite losing to the world youth silver medalist he put in a performance that he can be proud of."

Thapa led what appeared to be a closely fought first round by 5-1, and with Zack finding the points gap too wide to close, the Indian continued to outpunch him.

Michelus lost to reigning world youth champion Robeisy Ramirez of Cuba in his semi final.
